SAIGU is the Korean word for the date the LA Riots broke out. When most people are asked to recall an image during this time, they would bring up the endless loop of LAPD officers beating Rodney King or the smoke that lingered above the city for days. They will also bring up the sound and images of gunfire from Korean shop owners as they defended their Korea-town stores from looters. To many in the Korean community, seeing that footage on TV over and over again was a terrifying experience.
Create an editorial newspaper that shows the viewpoint of what Korean immigrants and Korean Americans have struggled through during the uprising of the LA Riots.
Leveraging photographies from Korean Daily and interviews with the people who experienced first hand during the riots, we will tell their stories through our graphic language.
To show that it is not just America itself has struggled but also Korean Americans who, still till this day, struggle from the terrifying experience.
